Wednesday

Went to see Mrs Pratt’s garden at Llanfairfechan. Well planned for colours. Laburnham [sic] & red Japanese maple very effective on back against a hillside of varied greens. Good paved garden. But their gentians (not so good) were in full sun. Thought they needed shade. Bought 3 lobelias. Badly bitten by midges. In blisters again.

Tuesday

Finished bottom layer of asparagrass bed & put down seaweed & rubble at one end. Planted various seeds indoors. Took beans down to garden & planted them in evening. Lovely warm day but midges bad. Heater at night.

Monday

Dug some more of asparagrass trench but had lumbago in back. Went out with Mrs Pyle in afternoon. Rather cold wind but dry. Heater at night.

Sunday

Did not get up until 8.30 as it was raining. Went to Osborne House. Cleaned up a bit in afternoon but very cold. Had heater going.

Saturday

Brought up a bag of seaweed from shire early in morning. Too wet to garden. Bought 2 lbs bone meal 1/-. Had heater going.

Friday

Dug out some more asparagrass bed, but very wet & clingly(sic) soil. Bought the dozen bean poles (6 ft) @ 3/-. Had heater in evening. Bought tomato plant from Mrs Parsons.

 

 

Thursday

Went to block in morning. Very muddy. Put out sweet peas & did little more re-arranging of this garden. Went to Llandudno in coach at night. Rain most of time.

Wednesday

Did not go to garden. Too wet. Had heater. Went to Eliase sale in pouring rain, which did not stop until evening.

Tuesday

Raining, so did not go to block early. Went to Llandudno for lime. Became fine but very cold. Went to tea at Mrs Phylis, then went to block to put cloches over corn. Came back & planted squash (2) and pumpkin (1) indoor. Turned to rain & very cold. Midges damnable. Had fire in morning but let it go out & had heater at night.
